Why Plumbers Recommend Installing Water Softener Systems at Home

Hard water has been a long-standing problem in many households across Canada. Traditionally, the Canadian government monitors average hardness levels for different municipalities and provinces as a way to measure water’s capacity to react with soap. High mineral concentration of calcium and magnesium essentially makes the water less effective for rinsing and lathering. As a result, you tend to use up more soap, detergent or shampoo, and therefore, more water as well. This all makes for high water consumption and less efficient water use.

Water hardness, however, doesn’t only affect the home’s water efficiency. Drinking water quality also drops if your water supply has a hardness greater than 200 mg/L. The Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality also considers a hardness level of 500 mg/L unacceptable for more domestic purposes. Using hard water under these conditions for drinking or culinary purposes is not recommended. Read more from this article: http://bit.ly/2gIgT4w

Plumbers Share Their Insight on How to Properly Maintain Your Home’s Plumbing System

Unresolved plumbing problems tend to be the most repulsive malfunctions in a home. They can make a stinky, unsightly mess. Beyond this, they can wreak severe damage to your home and property. Though plumbing snafus can usually be fixed by calling a skilled plumber who can examine the entire system, some problems are easily preventable if you follow some of these tips that reputable plumbers generously share.

GET A WATER SOFTENING SYSTEM

While the government of Edmonton ensures that all its residents get the highest quality of water, it still helps to hire a plumber to install a water-softening system for good measure. Hard water contains minerals that tend to erode your piping system from inside out. This, in turn, causes your pipes to break down and leak. Read more from this article: http://bit.ly/2v3EFhL

Plumbing Can Add Value to Your Home

Most homeowners will have thought about some form of renovation or upgrade to their home, as a means of increasing the value. 3 Telltale Signs of a Problematic Pipe Backup

As a homeowner, you’re sure to deal with clogged toilets, leaky pipes and other plumbing situations every once in a while, but multiple drains all backed up at the same time is a different story. Chances are, your main sewer line is already clogged. Water has no place to go so it goes back up and out of plumbing outlets. Here are the signs:

The sink. Run the sink nearest the toilet for a minute. Is the toilet water rising? Are there bubbles forming? This is one indicator that there’s air trapped in your sewer system, which is most likely caused by a clog.

The toilet. Flush the toilet. Is there water backing up and gurgling in the tub or shower? If yes, this means the flushed water is trying to flow down the pipes but is blocked by the clog so it goes back up to the lowest point, which is usually the shower drain.

The laundry. Run the washing machine. If draining the water is followed by a backup in the toilet or tub, it could be due to a sewer drain clog. However, if the toilet is flushing fine, the problem could just be limited to the washing machine and/or shower drain.
If you suspect a main sewer clog, first, look for the water shut off valve to cut the water supply to your home. Then, ensure that the drain is cleared as quickly as possible by calling an emergency plumber.

Water Hammers: What You Need to Know About Them

Turning on your faucet and hearing a loud banging is a bad sign. That loud banging sound is known as a “water hammer”, a characteristic noise that points to a possible problem with water pressure. It happens right after you turn off a faucet, and the fast moving water comes to a quick stop. This creates some kind of “shock wave”, which causes the hammering sound.

Proper plumbing comes with air chambers or cushions that soften these shock waves. If you are unsure if your plumbing has these, call reliable Edmonton plumbers to check, as these could save you a great deal of trouble later on. If the problem has been building up for some time, however, the air chambers could eventually fail.

Clogged Drain? No Problem with These Tips!

Clogged drains are among a home plumbing system’s greatest problems. While you might be tempted to call up your trusted Edmonton plumbers every time the sink gurgles or drains slowly, here are some steps you can take to remedy minor clogs before it’s too late:

Gear up

Start your plumbing troubleshooting by getting the right equipment in the first place. You’ll need a plunger, and in case the clog is more than a bit of plunging can take care of, you might want to bring a drain snake or hand auger, too. You’ll also need a wet cloth to cover the overflow vent of your sink’s basin— only by covering the vents properly can your plunger work efficiently.
